The Soil

I didn’t really want to spring for a soil test- I know our existing soil is pretty fertile as it hosts many plants and grasses without much water- it was pretty firm though so we trenched out the row’s where I’d plant 1 foot deep, the length of the trellis’s and amended the soil with a combination of about 1.5 yards of “Local Hero Veggie Mix” from American Soil and Stone in Richmond. http://www.americansoil.com/soils.html And about 1.5 yards of Kellogg’s Organic Plant/Vegetable Mix which we got from The Home Depot.

The American Soil and Stone soil is a great soil. We filled our Vegetable garden with it as well it is a mix of Sandy Loam, Greenwaste Compost, Rice Hulls, Chicken Manure, Grape Compost, Fir Bark, Cocoa Bean Hulls. The Kellogg’s is a nice blend, less sandy, more dense but less rich.
